"We are just a couple of friends who decided to start making fun and beautiful things and go to craft shows and sell them. Our names are Candice and Katie and before you ask, no, we aren't really sisters. :-) Our kids are great friends who love to play together so we were always hanging out together so we started making these things and this all just kinda happened. We hope you love our stuff as much as we do."

Oh me, oh my....how I can't wait to remodel my master bedroom!! I've actually been working on recreating my office since the last barn sale and I'm closing in on finishing that right now. I will be posting all about that in an upcoming blog in the very near future and I'm very excited about it!! As I'm looking at my winter bucket list and the projects I'm planning on accomplishing, my bedroom is high on my list! Winter is a good season for me to work on the inside of my home since the barn sale season is over till spring and I can focus my attention on other things. I also despise cold weather and would rather work in a heated room! Lol!
My favorite way to kick off a design plan is to find one swoon-worthy item that just makes my heart pitter-pat and then design all the other elements around it. It gives you a reference point to go back to when you're trying to decide on other colors, finishes, etc that you want to use in a space. I found this gorgeous pillow on Etsy and felt my knees go weak... I love the colors and the faded patina. Since our farmhouse is petite, I prefer to keep things light and airy and this pillow will be the centerpiece of my bed.
I'll pair it with bedding in light greys, creams and natural nubby fabrics. Texture is a fun element in design and adding chenilles, velvets and knubby knits together creates a warm, inviting mood to the room. It literally makes you want to dive into the bed and climb under those gorgeous fabrics, especially in winter.
Problem-solving is a huge consideration in the design process. One of our problems of late is our sweet old Murphy dog. Our current bed sits up very high and as he has aged, it is a struggle for him to get in and out of bed...yes...he sleeps right in the middle of our bed! My plan is to build a new bed with a shaped barnwood headboard and it will sit lower to the ground for easy access. You have to take everyone's comfort into consideration when designing a space....especially your dog!
One of the problems inherent in old farmhouses is a lack of storage, so adding furniture pieces that provide maximum storage are an essential part of this project. I'll be building a bedside table with 3 drawers below and a hutch top with doors to store my jewelry and some of my favorite pictures and items that make me smile. I like to be able to SEE all my jewelry because it really is a reflection of my personal style and makes it easy to accessorize an outfit. I'll paint the bedside table in an aged grey & white finish, heavily distressed. There is also a long wall that I'll be building a floor to ceiling closet with white cross-buck doors to store all our folded clothing and linens.
The ceiling will be barnwood planking, the walls will be painted a soft cream and the existing hardwood floors will be sanded and refinished in a light stain with a cowhide rug layered over a large sisal rug.
I'm still searching for the perfect chandelier with just a touch of farmhouse bling to hang over our bed.....Ah, the thrill of the hunt!!!
I listen today as a cool autumn wind is whistling through the trees in our yard. The air is stunningly crisp and clear following the storm that blew through the last couple of days. You would have been 29 today. There will be no candles, no birthday cake.....just memories of you that I hold deep within the folds of my being.
I treasure every birthday I had with you here. 20 cakes, 20 renditions of the birthday song, 20 years of being so thankful to be your mom. I struggle every year now, trying to decide how to mark this date that is so significant in my life. The first day of my life being a mom. The first day of your life being my son. You gave me that gift and I'm forever grateful.
I had planned to write this great message of triumph over grief and tell everyone just how wonderful life can be after a loss so great as ours. I lost you and you lost me... Somehow today I cannot write about that, although most days it is true. Today I miss you profoundly. Tomorrow will come and I will have made it through another year without you and maybe then I can talk about how you, even in death, have given me strength and courage and the will to pursue my passions in life. I will tell everyone who has suffered such a loss that if they can just hold on, life will get good again. But today my heart just does not believe that. I know it's temporary and tomorrow these clouds of grief will have been swept away once again. I just wish I could hold you one more time and wish you a happy birthday. I love you son...today, tomorrow and for always.
I stand in both awe and fascination as I watch how interconnected we all really are...What can appear as a mere coincidence is often just the opposite. At our fall barn sale in September, I was blessed to see one of those moments unfold before me.
Amber and Dave of The Essential Hippy were here as first time vendors and as I got to know them over the weekend, I found out they were getting married within the week. They are inseparable and have been together for 7 years. Oh how I adore a good love story! Here is where the story gets really good.....
It was no coincidence that Todd & Michele Coleman of Banshee Metal Works were also here as first time vendors. Todd creates the most beautiful handcrafted jewelry among other things. How natural that these 2 sweet couples paths would cross at such a significant time...
Todd and Michele have been married 18 years and are a beautiful example of what true love looks like....
In case you haven't figured it out yet, here is where their lives overlapped in the most beautiful way...Todd created their wedding bands. I love the meaning behind the symbols they chose for their rings.
When our lives intersect, it's like threads in a universal tapestry. We are all a different color but when woven together we create an amazing work of art. Sometimes we have to stand back to see the whole picture because we can get tangled up in seeing only the threads...Perspective is a powerful thing.
Wishing you a beautiful journey Amber and Dave...
